‘Transformed’ Pooch Grins Ear to Ear After Realizing He’s Found a Safe Haven

Animals that have been subjected to cruelty may lose hope and give up on life, thinking that there is no chance for happiness. When Sanford was brought to a shelter in Texas, he was labeled as a “broken dog.” He had been hit by a car and had a bullet wound in his right leg.

He remained in the corner of the shelter without looking around, but his constant smile never faded since he was taken in by a foster mom named Karen Velazquez. She introduced him to her other foster dogs and according to her, he is the happiest dog she has ever met. Karen shared that out of the 52 fosters she has taken care of, she has never encountered anyone as happy as him. He looks at her in a unique way that no other animal or human, including her own pets, has ever looked at her. The only time he stops smiling is when he is sleeping or eating.

Animal control officers found him lying on the side of the road, injured from a car collision and with a bullet wound on his right hind leg.

He was brought to a small shelter in Dallas, but because of limited resources, he did not receive any medical attention. Fortunately, a volunteer from the local dog rescue group Dallas DogRRR noticed Sanford and knew she had to help immediately.

Since his arrival, he has been grinning from ear to ear,” she shared. “I believe the moment he stepped into my home, he realized that he was in a secure and comfortable place.” Safford, also known as “Sanfee” to Karen, is currently enjoying the good life with homemade meals, daily walks, and playing with his new dog companions.

The dog, who is already ten years old, displays remarkable energy for his age and is currently in search of a forever home. According to his caretaker, he reminds her of an elderly gentleman living in a nursing home. Despite his age, he behaves like he’s in his 50s, as described by Kerry.

According to her, he would be a great addition to any family as he is friendly towards both dogs and humans. She also mentioned that he is particularly good with kids.
